Sisters July and September are very close, but very different: September is protective and distrustful; July, open and curious. An incident in school forces them to flee to an old holiday home with their mum, where a series of surreal events cause their bond to shift in ways July cannot comprehend.
The directorial debut from Greek-French actor Ariane Labed (Attenberg, most recently seen in The Brutalist), September Says is adapted from the novel Sisters by Daisy Johnson – the youngest nominee for the Man Booker Prize in history.
The film premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and has garnered comparisons to the work of Yorgos Lanthimos and Athina Rachel Tsangari.
