18th century period piece from legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick following the rise and fall of Irish farm boy Redmond Barry (Ryan O'Neal). Traversing the battlefields of Europe, his journey is filled with deadly engagements, wreckless abandonment and fleeting romances as he ultimately seeks a place in the British aristrocracy.
Kubrick originally wanted to adapt William Makepeace Thackeray's most famous novel Vanity Fair. However, he felt he couldn't do it justice within the confines of three hours. So he settled for The Memoirs of Barry Lyndon, Esq. instead.
