Layla is a struggling British-Palestinian drag queen who hides their insecurities behind a radical facade.
Performing at a corporate Pride party, they catch the eye of Max, a successful white gay man whose attentions sweep Layla off their feet. The two start an intoxicating romance, but as Layla starts to alter who they are in order to keep Max’s affections, they both have to face uncomfortable truths.
Layla was the opening film of the 2024 BFI Flare film festival and is the first feature directed by award-winning writer and performer Amrou Al-Kadhi, known for their autobiography Life as a Unicorn.
